Public asked to help identify man found in Lake Erie last month

Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard is requesting the public’s help to identify a body that was found on June 20 in Lake Erie.

The Sheriff’s Marine Unit recovered a white male. The Erie County Medical examiner’s office describes the individual as being 5-foot-7 inches, approximately 129 pounds and the examiner estimated the individual to be approximately 45-50 years old. The man had dark facial hair on the chin and bald. The unknown individual was wearing Wrangler blue jeans and a dark-colored pull-over underneath a dark-colored jacket. He was also wearing pants, but no belt and white sock, but with no shoes.

The medical examiner did collect dental impressions, fingerprints and a DNA blood sample but was unable to identify the person.

Sheriff Detectives have searched databases with negative results as well as contacting Canadian authorities. The Sheriff’s Office has received several names from the public but has eliminated those individuals.

Detectives are requesting the public’s help again to identify this individual. Anyone within communities along the shores of Lake Erie or beyond that may have information about this individual is asked to contact the Erie County Sheriff’s Office in Buffalo at 858-2903 and reference CL# 18 – 048945.
