Event will include an aerobatic halftime air show

SPOTLIGHT: Grand Prix Offshore Boat Race

Rick Volker

Dunkirk Mayor Wilfred Rosas is pleased to announce an addition to the upcoming Offshore Power Boat Race.

“This year we will add a half-time show featuring Rick Volker, who is an experienced aerobatic pilot known for flying surface level aerobatics and is a member of the exclusive Canadian Heritage Flight Team. Rick is one of the few pilots in the world qualified to fly both the Messerschmitt Bf109E and G models. This will be Rick’s third year of flying over our shoreline and Lake Erie,” he said.

“Rick Will pilot the Sukhoi and his aerobatic maneuvers will be as close as 10 feet above the lake and up to 2,000 feet,” Special Events and Festivals Coordinator Hector Rosas said.

Rick has created a unique performance in the Sukhoi SU-26M. There is a common theme in all of his displays: Complete mastery of the aircraft’s possible flight envelope, pushing the boundaries of both low and high speed limits, and artfully utilizing the smallest three dimensional space to create a masterpiece of entertainment. The Sukhoi SU-26M is like no other unlimited aerobatic airplane.

Rick takes full advantage of the Sukhoi’s unique capabilities. His routines are a roller coaster of artistry and athleticism, alternating frequently between violent maneuvers and delicate finesse.

“Not only will the residents and visitors to the city be entertained and thrilled by the fastest boats in the world, but they will be holding their breaths while watching Rick Volker tumble and spin in this magnificent aircraft.” Mayor Rosas said.

“Just like the past two summers when our Development Team and Special Events and Festivals Coordinator brought the air shows to our city, this year is on target to bring in tens of thousands of visitors and guests. I am looking forward to this amazing event and hope all of our residents come out and enjoy this boat race and aerobatic display. And I welcome everyone to stay and visit Dunkirk and Chautauqua County,” Mayor Rosas said.
