Glenwood Cemetery seeks donations for maintenance

Notice to all families that have relatives or friends interned in the Glenwood Cemetery, cared for by the Silver Creek Cemetery Assn., Inc., as with many of today’s economic situations, the cemetery lacks funds to keep up with the maintenance, and provide for burials and cremations. Also, The association has to pay more than $3,000 per year for insurance.

The Cemetery Association is audited by the New York State Division of Cemeteries, so there are limitations and mandates by which the cemetery is maintained.

Because of the fewer number of graves being purchased and more family members being cremated, there is not enough revenue to pay for insurance, employee benefits, equipment upkeep, etc.

The Glenwood cemetery only has two part-time employees, one for upkeep and burials. The second person handles record keeping, reports to New York State, issuing lot deeds, and paying all expenses.

Obviously, with fewer new burials, help is needed from families and friends to keep this beautiful cemetery in the condition needed.

Donations can be made out to the Silver Creek Cemetery Assn. and sent to the secretary-treasurer Linda Fryberger, 27 Buffalo St., Silver Creek 14136. To make the donation in memory of a loved one, enclose that information.
