Polar Bear ‘Chicken’ swim for charity set for Thursday

Not everyone is as brave as the winter Polar Bears. On Thursday, a group-swim for charity takes place at Cabana Sam’s in Sunset Bay. As a follow-up to the 16th Annual Silver Creek Polar Bear Swim for Charity, the swim is geared toward those too chicken to swim in January. Various factors, including the Buffalo Bills playoff game, hampered the donations raised during the 2018 swim. Organizers thought this would be a fun way to make up some of those lost funds. Their goal is to reach $4,000 to help pay for the “Silver Creek Polar Bear Swim / Firehouse on the Lake Clinic Room” at Buffalo Children’s Hospital.

Swimmers generate pledges for a jump in Lake Erie in August. A minimum pledge of $10 is required to participate. Registration begins at 5 p.m. with the swim promptly at 6:30 p.m. Event includes extended Happy Hour (2 For 1 Drinks) from 4 to 9 p.m. plus music by the Screaming Pineapples 7 to 11 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for Best Dressed Swimmer and the Swimmer Generating the Most Pledges. There will be a sports raffle with an autographed No. 71 Evan Rodrigues hockey stick, an Eric Wood autographed hat, a Buffalo Bills practice helmet plus an autographed football signed by many players.

Any and all age swimmers are welcome to join the fun.
