Art Start offers free art classes to community

Community members express their creative side at Art Start. Classes begin the week of Sept. 24

Art Start invites local community members to get creative with free art instruction. A full slate of classes are returning for the fall session, including community favorites in watercolor, decorative acrylic, knitting and card making, Broadpoint lettering and scrapbooking classes are also available. Scrapbooking participants will be expected to provide their own scrapbook and photos, but papers, adhesives, stamps and embellishments will be provided.

“No matter what your level of experience or interests, Art Start has something for anyone looking to explore their artistic side,” states Art Start organizer and watercolor artist Ronnie Lafferty.

Art Start is a ministry of Fredonia First United Methodist Church and has a threefold purpose: creativity, therapy and ministry. Anyone from the community is welcome to participate on a first come, first serve basis. Class sizes are limited. There is no charge for classes. Materials will be provided. A refundable deposit of $15 will be required for those who want to borrow calligraphy pens and tips.

Card makers: the first class is an introduction for beginners. Classes 2 through 7 are for everyone. Scrapbookers are required to provide their own scrapbooks and photos. Papers, adhesives, stamps and embellishments will be provided.

All classes begin the week of Sept. 24, last for two hours, and run for seven weeks, through the week of Nov. 5.

Monday: 10:30 a.m.: Beginning Watercolor with Ronnie Lafferty; 1:30 p.m.: Card Making with Kathy Rich (week 1 for beginners).

Tuesday: 10:30 a.m.: Scrapbooking with Kathy Rich; 1:30 p.m.: Beginning Acrylic with Marianne Keller.

Wednesday: 10:30 a.m.: Knitting with Marianne Keller Room 22; 1:30 p.m.: Acrylic Levell II with Marianne Keller.

Thursday: 10:30 a.m.: Foundational Lettering Broad Point with Patti Greenstein; 1:30 p.m. Watercolor Level II with Ronnie Lafferty

Friday: 10:30 a.m.: Watercolor Level III Independent with Ronnie Lafferty

Donations are gratefully accepted and go toward the purchase of materials.
