Panama man dies in ATV accident
PANAMA — A Panama man was killed after he was thrown from the all terrain vehicle he was riding in Panama, the New York State Police said.
Brent A. Aldrich, 32, of 13 South St., was traveling south on Eddy Road approaching Button Valley Road when he reportedly struck a guide rail on the east side of a bridge crossing over a small creek. The incident took place either late Sunday or early Monday.
Aldrich was ejected over the guide rail into water below. State police said the ATV remained on the side of the road.
An area resident, traveling from Button Valley Road onto Eddy Road at about 2 a.m., observed the ATV in the road and contacted the Chautauqua County 911 Center after he observed a post on Facebook that noted Aldrich had been missing.
Chautauqua County 911 contacted the New York State Police and the state Forest Ranger Nate Sprague. Troopers and Sprague patrolled to the area of Eddy and Button Valley roads and located Aldrich in 18 inches of water, 11 feet east of the bridge, state police said.
Chautauqua County Coroner Daniel J. Tyler pronounced the time of death as 8:23 p.m. An autopsy was scheduled at ECMC in Buffalo.
