Gowanda police respond to more than 400 calls in August

In the month of August the village of Gowanda Police Department answered 438 calls for service. There were nine custodial arrests with 47 total charges, two DWI arrests, two reportable accidents, 37 traffic citations issued, 20 police reports generated, five mental hygiene assists and approximately 3,600 miles patrolled for the month.

The new RICI Livescan has been installed, this device allows police to only have to fingerprint once and then attach that info to an individual. This makes transferring and identifying someone easier and in real time. The total cost to the department of the device was $24,000. Gowanda Treasurer Traci Hopkins along with Chief Dennis Feldmann were able to find funding within the budget to cover the costs without further costs being placed upon taxpayers.

The department also successfully sold off a Crown Victoria that they are awaiting the title for and are currently working on a program with crisis services to get officers trained as crisis intervention officers.
