Numerous DWIs, car fire reported by deputies

A car fire, a number of driving while intoxicated charges and accidents were reported late Tuesday evening to the OBSERVER.

Here is a rundown of the incidents from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department:

• PORTLAND — A 51-year-old Westfield man, who allegedly failed to dim his high-beam lights, is facing charges driving while intoxicated and other charges.

Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies report at about 8:30 p.m. Nov. 7, they stopped a vehicle driven by Joseph M. Pencek. Following an investigation into the incident, deputies and charged Pencek with felony DWI and Leandra’s Law — having child in the vehilce under 16, driving while under the influence of drugs, and failure to dim highbeam lights. Pencek will answer his charges in Portland Toawn Court.

• STOCKTON — A car fire burned a Buffalo man who was later charged with driving while intoxicated.

At about 10:38 p.m. Oct. 27, deputies responded to the vehicle fire on Route 380 at Waterman Road. Following an investigation into the incident, deputies were able to locate the operator, 54-year-old Brian Tucker a short distance from the incident location. After further investigation, deputies arrested and charged Tucker with aggravated DWI with blood alcohol 0.18 percent or greater), DWI, move from lane unsafely, and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. Tucker will answer his charges in Stockton Town Court.

• SILVER CREEK — A vehicle driving in the middle of the road has led to charges against a Perrysburg woman.

Deputies stopped the vehicle and identified the operator to be Gayle E. Nephew, 48. Through further investigation it was found that she was operating the vehicle in an intoxicated state. Nephew was arrested and charged with DWI, aggravated DWI, and failure to keep right. Nephew will answer to her charges in Silver Creek Village Court.

• SHERIDAN — A Fredonia man was charged by law enforcement after allegedly operating his vehicle at a high rate of speed.

Deputies stopped the vehicle on Route 20 and identified the operator to be Matthew R. Eaker, 28. Through further investigation it was determined that Eaker was operating the vehicle in an intoxicated state. Eaker was arrested and charged with DWI, DWI per se, and speeding. Eaker will answer to the charges in Sheridan Town Court.

• HARMONY — A Jamestown woman has been charged following a motor-vehicle accident.

Deputies responded to the crash on Route 474 at around 2:11 a.m. Nov. 8. They identified the involved vehicle operator to be Cynthia K. Haight, 47. Following an investigation into the crash, Deputies arrested and charged Haight with DWI, DWI per se, moving from lane unsafely and speed not reasonable.

Haight will answer her charges in Harmony Town Court.
