Region under flood watch through Friday

Western New York is under a flood watch beginning this afternoon and running through Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, widespread rain will develop today and continue through tonight and into early Friday across all of Western New York, with the heaviest rain expected to fall between this afternoon and evening.

Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected through early Friday morning. This heavy rain will fall on already saturated soils.

According to area spotters, through 9 a.m. today, Fredonia has received a half-inch of rain in the last 24 hours with Dunkirk receiving 0.46 inches. Other reports include: Silver Creek, 0.42 inches; Sinclairville, 0.41 inches; Cattaraugus, 0.38 inches; Gowanda, 0.28 inches; Dunkirk Airport, 0.2 inches.

Temperatures will be in the 40s and near 50 on Sunday.
