Wright retiring from UPMC Chautauqua in Jamestown

Betsy Wright, president and CEO of UPMC Chautauqua, will retire at the end of the year after 20 years of serving as the hospital’s president.

“Betsy leaves a legacy of which we are all proud,” said Steve Kilburn, president of the UPMC Chautauqua board. “She has been exceedingly instrumental in maintaining high levels of employee engagement, community support and positive relationships with national, state and local officials.”

With more than 35 years of healthcare experience, Wright has been recognized year after year as one of Western New York’s Most Influential People by Buffalo Business First. Most recently, she was honored as one of eight Women of Distinction of Western New York for her contributions through civic, academic, and community involvement.

“We deeply appreciate Betsy’s hard work to integrate UPMC Chautauqua into the UPMC system.,” said Kilburn. “She has earned the respect of the New York State Department of Health, the Office of Mental Health, the Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services and policy makers at all levels of health care.”

Brian Durniok, current president of UPMC Northwest, will serve as interim president. Brian has been a senior healthcare leader for more than 20 years and has served as the vice president of operations for Northwest and the vice president of human resources for UPMC’s northern pod.

Durniok will join the strong and well-established team including Cecil Miller, vice president of operations; Lorraine Diggs, chief nursing officer, vice president of nursing; Dr. Wolf-Dieter Krahn, medical director; Mary Bosek, director of quality, safety and patient experience; Dan Tota, director of physician services; Jana Anderson-O’Camb, director of human resources; Chuck Nazzaro, chief financial officer; and Lisa McChesney, chief information officer.

“Betsy will be missed, but we can only feel happy for her in this next phase of her life,” said Kilburn. “We are excited to welcome Brian to UPMC Chautauqua as he helps us to continue UPMC Chautauqua’s journey to excellence in clinical quality and patient satisfaction.”
