Marker remembers ‘Angola Horror’ wreck

ANGOLA — Placement of a Historical Marker by the Friends of the Village, Inc. will take place at 4:30 p.m. today at the Southwick House at 154 Mill St. It is “International Volunteer Day,” which provides opportunity to recognize former and present day individuals for volunteered service, be it for immediate response to life-threatening events or varied community purposes. This marker is linked to the Dec. 18, 1867, “Angola Horror” train wreck and the citizen responders whose helping hands made a difference in saving as many lives as possible.
