Area youth attend NYS All Breeds Dairy convention

A group of eight youth from the Chautauqua County Junior Holstein Club traveled to Syracuse to attend the 2019 All Breeds Convention January 19th through January 21st. This annual convention sponsored by the New York State Holstein Association invites youth associated with the dairy industry to showcase their knowledge and develop their professional skills such as public speaking.

Attendees ranged in age from six to thirteen: Allison Gabel (Lawtons), Madeline Gabel (Lawtons), Isaac Folts (North Collins), Erma Jean Wolcott (Mayville), Tyler Crowell (South Dayton), Anna Carlberg (Jamestown), Clara Carlberg (Jamestown), and Ava Meyer (Springville).

Awards were received by the following youth: Isaac Folts, 1st Place Junior Extemporaneous Speech, 2nd Place Junior Prepared Speech, Distinguished Junior Member and Junior Star Breeder Award; Allison Gabel, 2nd Place Junior Poster Contest; Madeline Gabel, 3rd Place Junior Poster Contest; Ava Meyer, 2nd Place Highest Individual Calf Raffle Ticket Seller; Anna Carlberg, 3rd Place Novice Prepared Speech, 1st Place Novice Poster Contest; Clara Carlberg, 4th Place Novice Poster Contest. The Club was also recognized as 1st Place Calf Raffle Ticket Seller for their club size. Isaac Folts had several of his Registered Holsteins nominated for All New York awards and received several outstanding awards. All of the youth participated in Dairy Jeopardy and Dairy Bowl, which are contests that test their knowledge of the dairy industry and had a lot of fun.

The youth who attended were able to network with others across New York State and gained experience with public speaking and contests that demonstrate their knowledge of the dairy industry.
