Despondent male rescued from surface of lake

CASSADAGA — Tuesday at about 1:15 p.m., the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office received an emergency call about a despondent male subject on the ice of Cassadaga Lakes.

The caller reported that they had been transporting the male subject to seek treatment, when the male ran from the vehicle and out onto the lake and began attempting to break through surface ice.

Members of Sheriff’s patrol, Chautauqua County Water Emergency Team, and local volunteer fire personnel established a perimeter around the subject.
