Dunkirk Schools award P-TECH construction project bids
The bids are in, and the Dunkirk Central School District can soon break ground on the new P-TECH facilities.
The project will convert the vacant, three-story School 6 building on East Benton Street into the Western New York College & Career Academy, and will include two additions to the current structure: a cafeteria and a technology laboratory.
Also, everything will be brought up to code, classrooms will be renovated, and more.
Seven bids came in for general contracting, with the contract being awarded to Transit Construction out of Elma, with a price of $3,696,000.
Nine bids came in for heating, ventilation and air conditioning contracting, with the contract being awarded to the Scobell Company of Erie, Pennsylvania, with a price of $1,122,780.
Four bids came in for electrical contracting, with the contract being awarded to Ahlstrom Schaeffer Electric of Jamestown, with a price of $919,500.
Finally, 10 bids came in for plumbing contracting, with the contract being awarded to Chautauqua Mechanical Inc. of Falconer, with a price of $605,835.
“We’re excited that the bids came in, and within our budget, and that we’re actually going to start full-tilt right off the bat here, now that they’ve been awarded, and our goal is to have kids moving into the new building for the P-TECH program over Christmas next year,” said Superintendent Dr. James Tracy. “So the second semester will be in the new facility. So right now, BOCES and the Dunkirk City School District are working out a plan for the first half of the year, because next year, we have an extra cohort coming in, so we’re excited. We’re going to have a high-quality building and it’s going to be a great place where STEM activities can take place.”
