Sheridan worker pleads guilty to theft

HANOVER — A Sheridan employee on paid leave has pleaded guilty to stealing items from the town of Sheridan Highway Department.

David Roach pleaded guilty Friday to one count of petit larceny, receiving a one-year conditional discharge, according to the Hanover town court clerk’s office. He had been issued an appearance ticket by the State Police at Fredonia in April and had numerous court dates delayed since July.

Roach has been on paid leave with full benefits since the theft, however, that could change with the guilty plea.

“He’s either going to have to be terminated from his job, or he will have to go back to work,” Sheridan Town Board member Charles Dillenburg told the OBSERVER in December. “He could retire, which I understand he’s not willing to do at this point, but until something is done, he’s going to have to be terminated from his job or go back to work.”

The Sheridan Town Board met on Thursday night. However, Roach’s employment status was not discussed.
