Cassadaga mayor, two trustees not seeking re-election

CASSADAGA — With the March election closing in, Cassadaga residents can expect new faces to grace the Cassadaga Village Board.

For the position of Mayor, Leeann Lazarony will not be running for re-election. From the Taxpayer Party, Mary Jo Bauer will be running unopposed for Cassadaga Village Mayor.

Two trustee positions will be opening up.

Amber Hilliker, who filled in when Mike Lehnen unexpectedly resigned, declined to run for a full term. Trustee Jeff Frick also declined to seek re-election.

Two people are running for trustee. With the Taxpayer Party is Cindy Flaherty, and with the Progressive Party is Theresa Seibert.

With only two trustee seats open and two people running, and with one person running unopposed for mayor, there’s a good chance these are the three new faces you will see on the village board come this March — unless, of course, a write-in candidate wins.

Additionally, a new Deputy Clerk has been chosen for the village. Bonita Mazzone will be working under Roxanne Astry, village clerk, to learn the ropes.

“(She) has an associate’s in finance, so I think she will be very good as a deputy clerk and future clerk,” said Astry.
