Dunkirk arrests nine in ‘street sweep’
Dunkirk Police took nine people into custody over the weekend on a number of charges.
Police said officers in both in plain clothes and in uniform, assisted by NYS Parole, engaged in a citywide street crimes detail. The following individuals were taken into custody:
¯ Ronald R. Winchell, 51, was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing and endangering the welfare of a child.
¯ Leroy Gilbert, 20, was charged with violation of probation warrant.
¯ Damian Young, 28, was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed operator, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and failure to comply with interlock device.
¯ William Green, 51, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest.
¯ Joseph Rosario, 29, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
¯ S.M. Diaz-Correa, 21, was charged with drivers view obstructed and unlicensed operator.
¯ Derial Aviles-Sanchez, 31, was charged with disobeying a traffic control device.
¯ Ricardo Vasquez, 17, was charged with suspended vehicle registration and driving with no insurance.
¯ Jermaine Fann, 31, was charged with open alcohol container in motor vehicle.
Officials said the purpose of this operation was to promote the safety of the community by policing in a proactive manner, which is designed to deter criminal activity on local street corners, execute outstanding warrants and aggressively enforce vehicle and traffic laws in high traffic areas.
