Graziano’s replacement sworn in

Kristie Lokietek

SOUTH DAYTON — After the resignation of Angelo Graziano at the January Pine Valley Board of Education meeting, the board had to scramble to find a person that could fill the board member position for the remainder of the school year. They found a new board member in Kristie Lokietek.

“In last month’s meeting, we had a resignation from the board, of Mr. Graziano. We asked for information on how to fill the board seat properly and we found that we had several options,” explained Board President Patricia Krenzer. “We asked the school attorney, we also contacted the New York State School Board Association, and we contacted Dr. O’Rourke, our (BOCES) district superintendent.

“Our options included posting, interviewing again and starting the process to find someone from now to May. The other option was to leave it open, which left us as an eight-member board, which could be a tie in some instances, and the third was to appoint someone that we had already vetted and interviewed, and that the board would approve of.

“I asked for a consensus of the board at the last open workshop meeting last week.

“The consensus was that they would like to see the person they’ve already interviewed and was highly in favor of, and that is Kristie,” concluded Krenzer.

Lokietek was then sworn in as the new board member, reciting, “I do solemnly swear and affirm that I will support the constitution of the United States, and the constitution of the state of New York, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of school board member according to the best of my ability.”

Lokietek will hold the position until the end of the current school year.
