Police searching for suspect in credit union robbery

FALCONER — Police are searching for a male suspect linked to a Monday morning robbery of the Greater Chautauqua Federal Credit Union, located at 51 E. Main St. in Falconer.

According to William Ohnmeiss, Ellicott police chief, the suspect reportedly robbed the bank shortly after 9 a.m. and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Ohnmeiss said the suspect didn’t appear to be armed and did not threaten any employees.

Falconer Central School has been put on lockdown for precautionary measures.

The suspect is described as a white male of 5 feet and 10 inches. He was wearing a blue hat, a Carhartt jacket, blue jeans and apparently had a beard that was drawn on his face with a marker.

Ellicott police is being assisted by the Jamestown Police Department, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police.

Ohnmeiss said police are currently getting statements and retrieving surveillance video.
