Irvington ends Fredonia girls’ season with 69-57 victory

They did not go down without a fight.

The Fredonia Hillbillies girls basketball team’s hopes for a state title ended this afternoon in Troy in a 69-57 loss to Irvington at the semifinals. After a rough first half, which included a number of turnovers, the Hillbillies turned it on in the third outscoring Irvington, 31-22.

Led by Katie Price, who hit a three-point buzzer beater to end the period, the Hillbillies were within six points heading into the fourth at 50-44. Irvington, however, turned up the defensive pressure and never let Fredonia get any closer.

Price finished with 31 points. Irvington moves the final on Saturday at 4 p.m.
