Dunkirk man strikes twice before being caught by police

Messiak M. Gonzalez

A Dunkirk man is behind bars after allegedly being involved in two concurrent domestic incidents that took place early Sunday morning.

Around 3:40 a.m. Dunkirk Police were called to a Washington Avenue residence for a report of a domestic dispute. It was alleged Messiak M. Gonzalez, 29, of Dunkirk, punched a vehicle’s windshield, severely damaging it, before fleeing the scene.

At that time he could not be located, but less than two hours later, officers were called back to the residence for the same victim allegedly being assaulted after Gonzalez allegedly entered unlawfully through the window.

The victim was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital for medical treatment of unspecified injuries.

Investigation revealed where Gonzalez may be hiding and with the assistance of Fredonia Police and New York State Police, he was located in the closet of a nearby Washington Avenue apartment.

Gonzalez was taken into custody and charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal mischief. It was also found Gonzalez was wanted on an outstanding warrant from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office for violation of conditions stemming from a previous burglary charge.

Gonzalez was held in city jail without bail.
