East Otto man facing manslaughter charge in accident

EAST OTTO — A January accident has led to charges of second-degree manslaughter for a 30-year-old town resident.

Cattaraugus County sheriff’s deputies today reported the arrest of Andrew Armbruster who was the driver during a fatal automobile accident in which passenger, Grace E. Armbruster, his mother, was killed on Jan. 26 at Bowen and East Otto-Springville roads.

Deputies allege Armbruster was under the influence of a narcotic, driving at a high rate of speed in slippery conditions and distracted by his cell phone. He failed to stop at an intersection and struck a tractor-trailer.

He also was charged with reckless driving and failure to stop at a stop sign.

He was released under supervision and the case was waived up to county court with a date for further proceeding still to be set.
