Wicked overnight weather downs trees, power lines
It was the night before the first day of school and all on the outside, nothing was quiet. In fact, it was quite loud.
Major thunderstorms, heavy rains and high winds knocked down trees and power lines throughout the region late Monday and early today. The storms reached the highest gusts around 11 and 11:30 p.m.
Trees and lines were down on Bachellor Hill Road, Kelly Hill Road and Route 380 in the town of Stockton. In the village of Fredonia, trees were down on the west side of the village and one was damaged in Barker Common.
Besides wind damage, there was plenty of heavy rains. According to the National Weather Service, Fredonia received more than an inch while Dunkirk received 0.93 inches while Silver Creek and Sinclairville tallied three-quarters of an inch.
It remained cloudy this morning, but temperatures are much lower than the 80s the area basked in on Labor Day.
