Silver Creek superintendent honors school board
SILVER CREEK — As part of School Board Recognition Week, Silver Creek superintendent Todd Crandall took some time during a recent meeting to honor board members for their dedication, time and commitment in serving the local K-12 community.
During the meeting, Crandall presented the board with homemade baked goods and provided each member with specialty umbrellas.
“These are Black Knights umbrellas,” Crandall said as he demonstrated how the double layer reverse folding umbrellas work. “They have our school colors and logo.”
Crandall then stood and read Governor Cuomo’s proclamation in which he declared Oct. 23 through 27 as School Board Recognition Week, a week that is “observed by the more than 700 school boards in school districts throughout the Empire State.”
Crandall praised the Silver Creek board for “asking relevant and sometimes difficult questions” and for “allowing us to take the time to do the important research in answering those questions.”
Crandall said that “the key work of school boards is to raise student achievement by:
¯ Creating a shared vision for the future of education.
¯ Setting the direction of the school district to achieve the highest student performance.
¯ Providing accountability for student achievement results.
¯ Developing a budget that aligns district resources to improve achievement.
¯ Supporting a healthy school district culture in which to work and to learn.
¯ And much more!
“School board members give the Silver Creek District citizens a voice in education decision making.
Even though we make a special effort to show our appreciation in October, their contribution is a year round
commitment,” Crandall said.
The members serving the Silver Creek district are as follows: Greg Cole (president), Steve Boothe (vice president), Matt Bogosian, Jerry Cross, Marjorie Foxton, Martha Howard and Scott Pulver.
