A greenhouse was damaged in a fire at Harvest View Greenhouse on Route 20, in the town of Pomfret.

According to Lt. Ryan Walker with the Fredonia Fire Department, around 2:15 p.m. Friday, firefighters received a call that hay in one of the greenhouses was on fire. By the time firefighters arrived, heavy black smoke was emitting from one of the greenhouses. They were quickly able to knock out the fire. Harvest View had set up a haunted maze for children and someone the bales caught fire.

Because of the blaze, Route 20 was shut down between Brocton and Fredonia for about three hours.

The owners of Harvest View Greenhouse said they hoped they would be open today, depending on what inspectors decide. The main structure did not appear to be damaged in any way and the majority of their product was unaffected by the fire.
