A man who has helped out at Forestville Central School has been arrested after being accused of having child pornography.

On Sept. 28, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) arrested Robert J. Howard, 62 of Forestville, for 10 counts of Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child (E Felony) and two counts of Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child (D Felony).

On July 20, Troopers received a report of possible child pornography. Troopers, BCI and NYSP Computer Crimes Unit located the IP address used. This dedicated work led to developing the suspect information during this investigation. Howard was arrested and processed at State Police at Fredonia.

Howard was arraigned at the Town of Hanover Court and remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Superintendent of the Forestville Central School district Renee Garrett told the OBSERVER that Howard “is not an employee of the school district,” however he had been a contracted score keeper for “several years” until being replaced in July by a teacher.

Howard was the scorekeeper for indoor sports such as basketball and volleyball.

“Based on the severity of the charges the district is working with a county judge to try and issue a stay away order,” Garrett said. “This would restrict (Howard’s) access from school property and school functions.”
