Trial date tentatively set in Ruiz murder trial
MAYVILLE — A trial date of March 6, 2018 has been tentatively set in the case of The People of the State of New York v. Rebecca Ruiz, Chautauqua County District Attorney Patrick Swanson told the OBSERVER.
The date was set during an omnibus motion hearing at Chautauqua County Court on Monday.
Ruiz, 28, of Dunkirk, was arrested on July 6 and charged with second-degree murder for the shooting death of her boyfriend, 21-year-old Julian Duman.
Ruiz pleaded not guilty during her arraignment on July 7 but during the grand jury hearing on Aug. 3 the prosecution added two new charges: second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with evidence.
Ruiz was booked into Chautauqua County Jail on July 7 and remains behind bars unless or until bail is posted which was set by the Grand Jury at $1 million cash or bond, $2 million property.
