Head-on accident leads to injuries
SHERIDAN – A violent, two-vehicle accident on Route 20 occurred before 7 p.m. Wednesday, and it resulted in multiple injuries.
One vehicle was flipped over on the north side of the road. The second vehicle, a pickup, ended up about 20 yards from the other vehicle on the south side of the road. The injured individual was successfully removed from the severely mangled pick-up and transported from the scene via ambulance.
Fredonia, Sheridan and East Dunkirk fire departments responded to the scene along with Chautauqua County Sheriffs and New York State Police.
A report by the Sheriff’s Office was released later in the evening, and early stages of the investigation show that a vehicle operated by Johnathon Eddings crossed into the opposite lane of travel and struck a vehicle operated by Nicholas Coppola IV. Eddings and passenger Brian Nowak were flown from the scene by helicopter for medical treatment of serious injuries. All other parties involved were transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital by ambulance for treatment of apparent minor injuries. The accident reconstruction was called to the scene to assist with the investigation. The accident is still under investigation and charges are pending.
