OBSERVER Staff Report

MAYVILLE — Chautauqua County Sheriff Joe Gerace and District Attorney Patrick Swanson are scheduled to host a press conference today regarding last week’s fatal shooting in Sherman.

The press conference will take place at 4:30 p.m. at the county Emergency Services Office in Mayville. The Sheriff’s Office would not disclose what will be discussed at the meeting.

In addition to the sheriff and DA, the state Department of Environmental Conservation will be at Thursday’s press conference.

Swanson said earlier this week he had planned to go before a grand jury to get possible indictments against Thomas B. Jadlowski, 34, who told police he had accidentally shot 43-year-old Rosemary Billquist the night of Nov. 22.

Jadlowski said he thought he saw a deer when he fired his pistol. Billquist, who was walking her dogs not far from her home on Armenian Road in Sherman was struck by the shot and later died.

Swanson said he would look for an indictment of second-degree manslaughter or criminally negligent homicide when he took the case to the grand jury.
