OBSERVER Staff Report

Chautauqua County Rural Ministry is nearly ready to distribute Thanksgiving food baskets to 289 adults and 161 children today.

St. Anthony’s and St. Joseph’s Church in Fredonia collected 55 turkeys and 1,100 pounds of canned goods to be included in the baskets. Rural Ministry also had an anonymous donor donate 110 turkeys and many individuals from the community have also dropped off turkeys.

“We are all set with turkeys this year, however, even with the donations, we are still short on many items,” reports Executive Director Kathleen G. Peterson.

There is an increased need due to families who fled Hurricane Maria and came locally to be with family or have Dunkirk-Fredonia as a temporary residence until they are able to return to Puerto Rico. Items still needed include cranberry sauce, boxed/bagged stuffing, gravy packets, canned fruit and boxed desserts.

A traditional Thanksgiving meal will be served Thanksgiving Day from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Friendly Kitchen and is open to the public.

If you would like to donate, items can be dropped off at 127 Central Ave. in Dunkirk. Chautauquqa County Rural Ministry is a United Way of Northern Chautauqua County Community Partner.
