SILVER CREEK — Route 5 in the village of Silver Creek has been reopened, according to an 11:30 NY Alert notification.

Rising waters have the village and Sunset Bay on alert this morning.

Already, high waters have hit Oliver Place in the village. In the meantime, the state alert system noted before 10 a.m. that flood indicators are present in the Sunset Bay area. Residents there need to be prepared to evacuate if conditions deteriorate.

Part of Route 5 in Silver Creek was closed due to flooding though waters did not reached the road. OBSERVER reporter Jimmy McCarthy notes waters are flowing fast in Silver Creek. The Chautauqua County Emergency Services’ Mobile Command Center, Silver Creek Fire Department, county Sheriff’s Water Rescue team and State Homeland Security and Emergency Services are on location this morning.

Travelers should use caution in these areas if possible.
