Gowanda basketball coach resigns
GOWANDA — Andy Bobseine resigned from his position as Gowanda boys varsity basketball head coach Tuesday. Gowanda School Superintendent James Klubek, who confirmed the report, declined to comment on the issue, calling it a personnel matter. A new coach is expected to be announced today, likely during the Gowanda Board of Education meeting.
The OBSERVER ran an article on Dec. 27 entitled “Brawdy’s huge night grabs attention,” highlighting Nate Brawdy’s 43 points in one game. During the interview, Bobseine called another player who now attends a different school a “ball-hog” and said that the team was better off without him. Bobseine received heavy criticism on social media for those comments.
Bobseine later sent the OBSERVER an apology where he called his comments “inappropriate,” saying that player is incredibly talented, which is evident with his performances on the courts these past two years.
Who will take the role as coach is unknown, but Bobseine’s assistant coaches listed on the school’s roster are Rob Catalano and Jack Gaylord.
The Gowanda Board of Education will begin at 7 p.m. for its regular meeting at the middle school library.
