Gunshot complaint leads to charge

MAYVILLE — An Ohio man was charged Sunday morning after gunshots were heard in Mayville.

At about 9:20 a.m. the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office received a call of gun shots in the area of Sea Lion Drive in the village of Mayville. A short time after, deputies received calls from ice fishermen that ammunition rounds appeared to be coming over the ice in a reckless manner.

Deputies located Matthew Michael, 20 of Brook Park, Ohio, along with numerous other subjects at a residence on Sea Lion Drive. It was determined that weapons owned by Michael were being discharged at targets placed on the ice.

Michael was taken into custody then released with appearance tickets for second-degree reckless endangerment and is to appear in Chautauqua Town Court at a later date.
