SHERIDAN — Newly elected Sheridan Town Supervisor John Walker II got comfortable in the position quickly. It helped that Walker was in those shoes eight years ago.

As he returns, Walker has new faces including Town Clerk Rebecca Schafer and Town Councilmen Craig M. Sutton, Jr., and similar issues that he faced in his 12 years as supervisor. One being a water line from the North Chautauqua County Water District.

“Last time I was in Chadwick Bay was (part of) a big push for water from north county,” Walker said. “As you know, north county water is becoming a reality. It’s going west at this time, towards Brocton, Portland, then after that it will go east towards Sheridan. I am sort of happy to see (it). We could not complete the line before, we couldn’t get enough money to go all the way to Silver Creek.

So, that left a lot of our people on Route 5 without the quality and quantity of water. Now, basically that should be solved.”

He added that he only attended a handful of meetings since he left office, though he sees it to be a reality in the coming years.

In the reorganizational meeting earlier this month, it was short and sweet as the board members admitted they got to know each other two days ago.

The one thing that has not changed for Walker was the unique assets that Sheridan has to offer.

“The town has a really good quality of living,” Walker said. “Basically, if you want to live up on the hill, which I do, it’s nice up there, but it’s also snowy. If you want to live down here (near the town hall), you’re close to the Thruway and you’re close to Dunkirk and the schools. It gives a little bit of everything.”

The Sheridan Town Board will meet the second Wednesday of each month for its regular meeting and the fourth Wednesday will be for a workshop meeting.
