Gowanda Elementary grows character with grades

The Gowanda Elementary School celebrated the Random Acts of Kindness Week from Feb. 12-16. From a skeleton of wood to a massive, full tree, students shared their kindness throughout the building.

GOWANDA — A beautiful tree in the Gowanda Elementary School building grew with the help of students helping other students. The “Kindness Tree” had yellow, red, blue and green heart leaves with each leaf having a note of what each child did to spread kindness.

“So many are stuck in their math and English scores, we aim to help students get high character,” Gowanda Interim Superintendent Dr. Robert Anderson said.

The tree that has a couple hundred leaves started Feb. 12 and ran the entire school week. Though during this time of the year the trees outside are bare, Gowanda grew a leafy one and a caring student body for a stronger future.
