Jury selection next week in Ruiz case
Jury selection in the Rebecca Ruiz murder trial is set to begin Tuesday, March 6 in Chautauqua County Court.
The 29-year-old Dunkirk woman has sat in jail since July 7. She’s charged with second-degree murder in the alleged shooting death of her boyfriend, 21-year-old Julian Duman. The incident occurred at the corner of Lake Shore Drive East and South Zebra Street on the night of July 6.
Ruiz pleaded not guilty during her July 7 arraignment. A grand jury indicted her in early August of second-degree murder. In addition, the grand jury indicted her on second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with evidence.
Ruiz is being held on $1 million cash or $2 million property bond. Ruiz is represented by attorney Anthony Pendergrass.
Chautauqua County Court Judge David Foley is presiding over the case.
