Downed line in city leaves 2,100 powerless

A downed power line on Doughty Street caused more than 2,100 Dunkirk residents to be without power for nearly three hours Thursday. The power went out shortly before 8 p.m.

Power was restored around 11 p.m.

At 7:52 p.m., it was reported that an active line was down and sparking near 66 W. Doughty Street.

Cars were observed driving over the wire. Doughty Street was then blocked off by Dunkirk Police.

Businesses and residences south of Fourth Street are without power, while businesses and residences north of Fourth Street are not impacted.

While driving south on Central Avenue, street lights were down between Third Street and Seventh Street.

Dunkirk Police and Dunkirk Fire Department were present at the scene.
