Ruiz trial set for Wednesday

MAYVILLE — With one more juror and two alternates yet to be selected for the Rebecca Ruiz murder case, the Chautauqua County Court has moved the trial start date to Wednesday, March 14 at 9:30 a.m.

Six jurors were selected on Tuesday and five more on Wednesday.

“They will finish up the selection of one more juror and two alternates on Tuesday, March 13,” Deputy Chief Court Clerk Mary Alice Petrella told the OBSERVER.

Ruiz, a 29-year-old woman from Dunkirk, is facing a second-degree murder charge for the July 6, 2017 shooting death of her boyfriend, 21-year-old Julian Duman.

Ruiz is also being charged with possession of a weapon and tampering with evidence.

Chautauqua County Court Judge David Foley is presiding over the case.
