Cassadaga village election changed to November
CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga Village Board of Trustees recently passed resolution number 215, effectively changing the village trustee and village mayor elections to correspond with the date of the general election.
Beginning next year, “The village trustee and village mayor shall be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, the same day of the general election…and the primary elections, if any, shall be held on the same day as the primary elections for the general election…”
Prior to the change, Cassadaga held its elections every other year on the third Tuesday of March for village trustees and every other year for the village mayor.
The change, according to the resolution, “Can save the cost of these elections…and may result in a strong turnout, particularly during a presidential (election) year or other major elections.”
Regarding local elected officials, “the term of any village officer whose term would otherwise expire, shall be extended until the beginning of the new term of office for such officer following the general election.”
The general election in 2019 will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
