Large marijuana growing operation uncovered in Gowanda

GOWANDA — An arrest has been made in a large marijuana growing operation.

According to Gowanda Police, officers were called to 34 Torrance Place, Gowanda Friday around 3 p.m. for a complaint of noxious odor emanating from the residence.

Officers said they were allowed entry and observed two large marijuana bags in plain site.

Resident David Yezek, 58, was detained for further investigation and a search warrant was obtained.

Police said they discovered an amount in excess of 30 pounds of marijuana and 580 marijuana plants in various stages of growth. Yezek was charged with first-degree marijuana, a felony, for unlawfully growing marijuana. Additional charges may be forthcoming pending the processing of the marijuana plants confiscated.

Yezek was arraigned in Persia Town Court and sent to the Cattaraugus County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.

The Southern Tier Drug Task Force, the New York State Police and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the incident.
