Former County Home Administrator charged with sex abuse

OBSERVER Staff Report

SALAMANCA — A former administrator of the Chautauqua County Home and current Dunkirk resident has been charged after allegedly groping several women at Friday evening’s Toby Keith concert in Salamanca.

According to a report by the Olean Times Herald, Timothy E. Hellwig, 60, was arrested and charged just after 10:30 p.m. Friday with three counts of third-degree sexual abuse, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. The arrest stemmed from complaints that Hellwig allegedly groped three women during the outdoor concert at the Seneca Allegany Casino.

The Times Herald reports that Hellwig was the Cattaraugus County nursing homes director before resigning in February after failing to notify county officials of an investigation by the state Attorney General’s Office into the injury and death of a county nursing home resident.

Hellwig served almost 20 years as administrator for the Chautauqua County home after resigning Feb. 28, 2014 for the director of nursing homes position in Cattaraugus County.

The Times Herald reports that Hellwig is set to appear in Salamanca City Court this morning.
