Adams Cup Street Hockey tournament set for Saturday

A new event is coming to the city this weekend as The Adams Cup Street Hockey tournament will take place at the Adams, located at 600 Central Ave.

William Haskas, co-director of the architectural firm plusFarm, is looking forward to hosting this new event for residents.

“I’m from Brooklyn, and every year we had a tournament like this,” Haskas stated. “We could have chosen a lot of sports, but hockey just fits so well with the holiday and winter season.”

The event is a 4-on-4 tournament for all ages including adults, in age appropriate divisions. Prior knowledge of how to play hockey, or how well, is not an issue.

“It’s about getting kids and families outdoors,” Haskas added. “We want people to come and interact with The Adams, make it a new cultural center of the community and become a part of their everyday lives.”

The tournament is free of charge and will take place on Saturday with the first puck dropping at 10 a.m. The public is encouraged to attend, even if just to watch and cheer on their neighbors. The Dunkirk Access crew will be filming the event and refreshments will be served. Attendees can take time to warm up in the building between rounds and, of course, poke around the exhibits.

Teams can register at the event, though The Adams is encouraging those that are interested to register online at ahead of time if able.

The Adams Cup is the second of three events making up the holiday weekend at the The Adams. The first event will be a gala taking place Friday evening at 7 p.m., followed by the hockey tournament Saturday and then a holiday market on Sunday, which is running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

During the hockey tournament, Sixth Street will be closed from Central Avenue to the library parking lot entrance.
