Deacon Johnny M. Tho-mas, 58, of Park Avenue, Dunkirk, NY passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Brooks Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Dunkirk on September 4, 1958, the son of the late Deacon Johnnie T. Thomas, Sr. and Rosietta M. (Jackson) Thomas. Johnny graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1977 and attended Buffalo State University. He was an employee of Kodak, Strong Memorial Hospital and St. Joseph’s Villa located in Rochester, NY.

Johnny moved back to Dunkirk in 1997 where he attended the Good Hope Baptist Church. He was later ordained as a Deacon on May 21, 2004 under the leadership of the late Rev. George W. Tate. He later became a Sunday School Teacher for the Junior and Senior class and occasionally filled for the adult class.

He enjoyed reading and talking about the Bible, watching baseball, basketball and football and playing darts.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his companion of 22 years, Melissa Babcock, his children, Lashante Thomas of Buffalo, NY, Labrittany Eddy of  Rochester, NY, Shaquille Thomas, Tamika Thomas, Tracy Babcock, Kirk Babcock, Alex Babcock, Amber Babcock all of Dunkirk and 3 grandchildren.

He also leaves to cherish his memories, his sister, Myra Thomas, brothers, Rudolph Thomas, Randolph Thomas all of Dunkirk and Jerome S. Thomas of Jamestown, NY. A close friend of many years, Billy Pittman, Sr. and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was pre deceased by his sisters, Martha Hollins and Marcella Krzyzanowski and brother Robert Dennis Thomas.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2016 from the Newman Funeral Home, Inc. The Rev. Frank Torain will offficiate. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call the funeral home 79 PM Tuesday, December 13, 2016.
