Charles L. Stanton

Charles L. Stanton, 74 of Portland, New York, died peacefully Monday, February 20, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born December 8, 1942 at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, New York, and resided in Fredonia, New York, until his marriage to Gloria “Diane” Fisher. They were married on October 2, 1965 in Spartansburg, Pa.

He was the son of the late Lemoyne “Red” Stanton and Edith (Bosworth) Stanton. He drove bus for many years for BOCES LoGuidice Center in Fredonia and at Bluebird Bus Co. He also worked at Dunkirk Radiator.

Charles enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. He always had a story and a smile for the many people he met. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time outside gardening. His faith in God was very important to him.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gloria; his two sons, Brian and Scott (Lisa) Stanton, both of Portland, New York; and his seven grandchildren, Brad, Brianna, Karina and Kenya Stanton of Portland, New York, and Anthony Dwyer of Bradford, Pennsylvania, and Christopher and Luke Stanton of Brocton, New York. He also had one great-grandchild, Braxxtyn Stanton of Westfield, New York. Charles is also survived by two sisters, Kate (Richard) Cranston of Brocton, New York and Mary (Sonny) Beltram of Baytown, Texas, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Ruth and his brother, Larry Stanton.

A Celebration of his life will be held at the First Baptist Church, 9 Kent Street, Westfield, New York on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 12 noon. The Rev Matt Wolf will officiate. Visiting hours for family and friends will take place from 10 to 12 noon at the Baptist Church prior to the Funeral Service on Thursday.

Interment will be private in Westfield Union Cemetery. There will be a luncheon for family and friends immediately following the Service in the First Baptist Church Hall.
