Walter N. Butcher

BALDWINSVILLE — Walter N. Butcher, 93, of Downer Street Road, Baldwinsville, NY died Monday, March 6, 2017 at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse, following a short illness. He was born in the town of Villenova on Nov. 5, 1923, the son of the late Edwin and Lucy (Dailey) Butcher. Mr. Butcher was a gradu- ate of Forestville Central School, Class of 1941 and attended the University of Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and worked as a Director of Marketing & Planning for the former Agway, Inc. Syracuse, NY for 40 years. Mr. Butcher was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Baldwinsville, J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post #953, Forestville and was involved with Dairy Activities of the New York State Fair for over 40 years. He was Past President of the New York State Dairy Exhibits Inc., the United States Pony Trotting Association and the New York State Shetland Pony Asso- ciation, was a former member of the Rotary Club in Canandaigua and he served three terms as Alderman for the city of Canandaigua. Mr. Butcher was also a very active sports player, still playing golf in December. Survivors include his wife Marilynn (Campbell) Butcher, a resident of Eld- erwood in Liverpool, NY, whom he married Aug. 20, 1949 in the Forestville United Methodist Church and a daughter, Judy (Paul) Calaway of Olmsted Falls, OH. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Joshua, Matthew and Julie Calaway, all of Olmstead Falls, OH and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by six brothers: Norris Butcher, Wayne Butcher, Laurence Butcher, Robert Butcher, Donald Butcher, Wayne Jones and a foster daughter, Doris Young. Friends are welcome to call at Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main St., Forestville on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., from where Funeral Services will be held Saturday morning at 11 o’clock with Pastor Kenneth Spink of Berea Baptist Church, Berea, OH. Interment will follow in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, town of Hanover, where Graveside Military Services will be conducted by members of J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post #953, Forestville.
