Mary M. Mcgan

Mary Margaret McGan, 101, of Dunkirk, died Thursday morning, May 25, 2017 at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born December 31, 1915, in Silver Creek, daughter of the late Walter and Blanche (Baker) Welka.

Mary graduated from Sacred Heart School in 1930 and Dunkirk High School in 1934.

A retired employee of S.S. Kresge Company in Dunkirk after 25 years and the former St. Vincent’s Home for the Aged on May 31, 1982.

Mary was a member of the former Sacred Heart R.C. Church and current member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church and former member of the parish Adult Traditional Choir, parish Guild and parish Singles Club. She also regularly worked Monday-night bingo, AARP Chapter 299, Kosciuszko Club, NYS Right to Life, Dunkirk & Fredonia Fruit of the Vine Ultrega and the Grape Vine Pinochle Club.

A lover of music, Mary enjoyed cooking, baking, walking, swimming and flowers, especially the roses in her garden.

Surviving are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and more.

Preceded in death in addition to her parents are her son Philip James McGan, who died February 3, 1991, sisters Virginia Adamczak, Lucille Romanik, Janet Elliott, a brother Walter Welka, a niece, Barbara Pencek, great-nephews Roger Adamczak, William Adamczak and Michael Adamczak.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call today from 2-4 p.m. at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 E. Doughty St. in Dunkirk.

Funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 10 o’clock in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
