James F. Gloff

James F. “The Hawk” Gloff passed away Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, at home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 66 years old.

He was born April 28, 1951, the son of the late Charles P. Gloff and Loretta Erick Gloff.

He was a maintenance man for STEL shortly before his passing. Jim was a member of the Dom Polski Club.

Since his early teens, he started and played in many bands in Dunkirk and Florida, including Wooden Ship, Shades of Darkness, Jimi Gloff Blues Band and many more. He was a self taught, accomplished guitar player, who also played many other instruments. He was an avid Neil Young fan and had a “Heart of Gold.” He was a talented artist.

Jim had a great sense of humor, he was a Miami Dolphins fan, loved playing his guitar and listening to music. His TV was usually tuned to the ScFi station. “King Kong” was his favorite movie.

He is survived by one son, Jeremy Gloff of Tampa, Fla.; one daughter, Tanya Gloff of West Seneca; one sister, Joanne (Thomas) Crane and two brothers, Charles P. (Teresa) Gloff and David M. (Sherry Sturtevant) Gloff, all of Dunkirk. He has many nieces, nephews and cousins and an aunt, Betty Erick, who survive.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his grandparents, Herbert and Gertrude (Hanes) Gloff Sr. and Joseph and Anna (Rajski) Erick. Also uncles Herbert (Helen) Gloff and Richard J. Erick.

Visitation will be Wednesday at McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service at the funeral home will be at 10 a.m. Thursday.
