Jean Currie

Eva Jean Currie, 99, of St. Columban’s on the Lake in Silver Creek, formerly of Fredonia, passed peacefully on September 1, 2017.

Jean was born on Berry Road in Fredonia on May 5, 1918, the only child to Stanley and Harriet (Keith) Kusneske.

She was a graduate of Fredonia High School and attended Jamestown Business College where she met her husband, William J. Currie. They married on November 16, 1939 and soon after settled in Fredonia, where they raised their three children. Jean was a devoted homemaker and friend to many. Over the years she served as a teller for the Board of Elections and in the spring and fall helped out the Salhoff’s tying and picking grapes on their Berry Road farm. She was a member of Fredonia Presbyterian Church, the Stitch and Chatter Club, past member of the Canadaway Chapter of the Eastern Star and life member of the Cherry Creek VFW.

Jean and her husband enjoyed the company of family and friends during their lives and took many road trips across the United States and Canada. In 2006, Jean moved from the family home on Howard Street to St. Columban’s on the Lake in Silver Creek, where she continued to enjoy a rich and happy retirement.

She is survived by her son, James W. Currie of Arkwright; daughter, Jane Suzanne (Douglas) Grace of Dunkirk; granddaughter, Rebecca (Harold) Price of Zebulon, NC; grandson, Todd Johnson of Smithfield, NC; great granddaughters, Autumn McCammon and Currie Johnson of Selma and Smithfield, NC; as well as nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many dear friends and her “extended family” at St. Columban’s.

In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband on May 12, 2004 and her daughter Janet A. Bentley on November 14, 2008.

A memorial service will be held at St. Columban’s on the Lake Chapel on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Columban’s on the Lake, 2546 Lake Road, Silver Creek, NY 14136, or to the charity of one’s choice.
