Sister Colette Marcelle Greder, C.P.

Sister Colette Marcelle Greder, C.P, 83, died Tuesday, August 22, 2017, on the Feast of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, at St. Gabriel’s Passionist Nuns Monastery, Clarks Summit, PA.

Sister Colette was born July 30, 1934, in Dunkirk, NY, to the late Edward and Nelly (Freville) Greder. She entered the Passionist Community on March 6, 1956 and was professed on March 6, 1958, taking the religious name of Sister Maria Paul of the Incarnation. During her Passionist life, Sister Colette served in most of the offices in the monastery, including administration, community counselor and vicar, and also was a spiritual guide for many who sought guidance, prayer and comfort. She was devoted to her vows as a religious Passionist nun who prayed endlessly. She lived her life of continual prayer as a contemplative in an abiding sense of God’s presence. To the delight of her community, friends and retreatants, Sister Colette also had a very artistic and poetic countenance and talent.

Sister Colette was surrounded daily by her devoted and loving community, monastery staff and friends. A sincere and special expression of gratitude is extended to AseraCare and personal caregivers who tended to her unceasingly during her time of illness.

Sister Colette is survived by her monastic community; two sisters, Maria Andreas of Rancho Bernardo, CA and Mollie Staley of Dunkirk, NY; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Greder of Florida, and her sister, Yvonne Moffett, of Dunkirk, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on August 29 in St. Gabriel’s Monastery Chapel by Rev. Fr. Richard Burke. Interment followed at Passionist Nun Cemetery.
