Dora “Dee” Grainge
GOWANDA, NY — Dora E. “Dee” Grainge, 80, passed away September 30, 2017 at Lake Shore Hospital.
She was born April 10, 1937, the daughter of the late Carl and Dora (Gifford) Steckman.
In 1956 in Ellicottville, NY, she married William Grainge, who predeceased her in 2006.
Mrs. Grainge was a tour guide for 30 years, previously working for Bluebird Coach Lines in Olean, NY, and Quality Transporation in Hamburg, NY, until her retirement. Mrs. Grainge was a member and involved in many organizations including the Collins Fire Vol. Fire Department Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, Meals on Wheels, the Gowanda Food Pantry, as well as being a leader for the Gowanda Traveler?s Club, President of the Gowanda Valley Pioneers, and a Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader. She was active at the Gowanda Presbyterian Church, where she was an Ordained Deacon, as well as being a member of the Free Methodist Church in Gowanda. Mrs. Grainge was member at the Painter Communtiy Center in Collins. She loved music as well as Boston terriers and enjoyed traveling the world.
Mrs. Grainge is survived by a son, William (Deb) Grainge of Gowanda, NY; and two daughters, Dianna (Ronald) Stelley of Gowanda, NY, and Karin (Sherry White) Voorhis of Angola, NY. She is also survived by a brother, William Steckman of Salamanca, NY, as well as four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, nine great- great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her loving husband of 50 years, Mrs. Grainge is predeceased by a brother, Carl Steckman and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Hexamer.
Friends may call at Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 105 E. Main St., Gowanda, NY, on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2017 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home. Burial will be in Collins Center Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Master?s Plan Cafe in Dayton, NY, the Gowanda Food Pantry, or the Collins Vol. Fire Department.
